Not always easy to do...

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream, not only plan, but also believe."
Anatole France

I believe, I believe, but it would be nice to get some employer reinforcement!!! Got to do more employer follow-up from the contacts I have made and the resumes I have sent.

more on my Career Fair Experience

I had copies of my  resume, notepad and pen, networking cards, and I was dressed in my nice black suit ready to attend the Career Fair.  I had practiced my elevator speech, (a 30 second introduction of my education and work experience) to be presented after a firm handshake with employers.  As I walked through the doors of the 7th floor of University Hall, I had to admit that I was nervous.  I waited on line behind many other prospective candidates to meet the employer that I had researched ahead of time.   Before I knew it, the employer had listened to my elevator speech and had my  resume in hand.

I don't know if all this will result in an interview or the job I want, but I had a goal to accomplish to meet employers in person and be prepared with a plan. Nervous I was, but I did it! Yeah, me.

Did you go to the Fair? How did you do?

"...An important key to self confidence is preparation"

Went to the Career Fair on  campus yesterday...so glad I had done my homework before I went. I was able to talk with the recruiter about the counseling position I am interested in and I think I did ok!

Job Search with Career Directions

I have been questioning whether or not there are any jobs out there. I logged into my  Career Directions account to search for jobs that match my interests and found that there are jobs for me in multiple states! Should move and expand my horizons? I noticed I did not have to search in more than one place because my job search is linked to the popular job boards everyone talks about. As I am searching, feeling optimistic that there must be a job out there for me, I noticed I can create a job alert on Career Directions that sends me e-mails about new job postings. I like this idea of worrying less about searching for a job everyday and more about improving my resume and interviewing skills. I will find a job...I don’t know when and but I’m learning the how.

Needing inspiration, I...

searched the web for quotes about work and found Mark Twain's comment:

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."

Take advantage of on-campus services!

And so it begins: two words to express my feelings...frustration yet hopeful.  It seems as though job searching might be more of a long process than I thought.  I have decided to think of different ways that will make me marketable to employers so I can hopefully get a foot in the door for an interview. Today, I decided it might be a good idea to attend the  MSU Career Fair on April 20th in University Hall and I noticed a company I'm very interested in. I stopped by Career Services at Morehead Hall 337 and spoke to one of the directors about this interest. I will research the company before I meet the recruiter at the Career Fair. It's going to take some time but after all I must put in the effort to enjoy the rewards!

Follow me as I try to take on the challenge of finding a job! See what my next step will be...to be continued.
